Holden's first "Run for Fun!"

Our town holds a yearly event called, "Kids Run For Fun." It costs 10 dollars for the whole summer, and every Friday (weather permitting) they run at Central Catholic's High School track. Each time they run, they receive a ribbon, cookies, and juice, and at the end of the summer they get a trophy. It's just a fun way to enjoy the outdoors and promote physical fitness. (Not that Holden needs any push in that direction! Mr. "on the go" string-bean would choose to live outside if we let him, and the only time he is truly still is when he sleeps!) As you can see, all of the kids get these bright orange t-shirts. We were amazed at how big of a turnout there was. I saw a lot of former students and friends from around town. The nice thing is that they break the runs into age groups. Holden was in the first run, for ages 0-2. (Obviously those that can't walk can be carried or pushed in strollers.) We met up with our friends and neighbors, the Pollets. They have a little guy, Brady, who is just 3 months older than Holden. The boys love to play together and are already quite competitive over toys and activities! The funny thing about it is that Jay and Mike used to hang out together in the Jr. High/High School/College days. It was hilarious watching the boys! They only had to run half the track for their age group. The two started out strong but were quickly deterred by fascinating rocks, twigs, and other items along the way which they would stoop to examine and pick up. At one point Brady was going back towards the starting line and Holden had to end up being carried the last leg, but they both had a blast! Below are some pics.

Family Shot! Can you tell it's sunny? Nice squintin', Jay!

I love these shots of Holden peeking at the track through the fence. (Is he BITING the fence in the one on the right? Wouldn't surprise me!)

Left: Holden and his buddy, Brady.

Like fathers, like sons! Daddy and Holden
and Mike and Brady. The boys are saying,
"Put me down! Let's run!"

Left: On the move! I love how Mike is pulling on Brady's sleeve and in the background, Jay is pushing Holden in the right direction!

Above: "Okay, Daddy, you can carry me this last leg!

"WE DID IT!"

Above: Who is more proud of the ribbon, Holden or Daddy?

Holden decided to stick out his tongue and blow spit on the way to dinner. Mmm...appetizing!

The dinner of Champions: Cheerios and sippies!
