Before Holden, Callie and Tiggy were our babies. No two kitties have ever been more loved...or spoiled! We picked them each out as babies, first Callie, then Tiggy a year later. Callie (our calico, hence her name) was the runt of her litter and so tiny I worried somebody would accidentally step on her and that would be her end! She is very loyal, very protective, and easily spooked. She has always loved being under the covers from the time she came home with us at 6 weeks old. Tiggy, our tiger cat, is the total opposite. Feisty, spunky, and thinks she's a dog! Eats absolutely anything: Taco Bell nachos, pizza, I think she'd eat fried cat if we served it to her. She is playful and silly and is always trying to get a rise out of Callie. When I was looking through my photo CD's, I realized we got Callie long enough ago that her kitten pictures are not digital! Sorry, Callie! So I inserted a picture of her on the day we brought Tiggy home. She was so jealous that Jay broke out the can of cheese whiz and let her eat to her heart's content. (That is one of the few human foods she will eat, and she loves it!)
The girls got a rude awakening when we brought Holden home, this squalling, wriggling little bundle in a blue blankie smaller than both of them at that point! I worried about how they'd react; while dogs are known to please, cats have a mind of their own. I am happy to report that they have been wonderful with Holden. Never once have they bit or scratched him, (they both are declawed in front but not in back) and have each taken their own special role with him. Callie is his protector. Guarded over his bassinet every night when he was an infant and would meow if he cried or got the blanket over his head. It was the funniest thing! I think she thought she was his surrogate mom. She stays out of his range today since he likes to grab at whiskers, tail, and fur, but still watches him and puts herself between him and visitors she doesn't know. Tiggy of course, the cat that thinks she's a dog, loves to play with all of his toys. She will steal his balls from him, chase his lawnmower, and play a game where she lets him get just close enough....then leaps out of the way, to squeals and giggles from Holden.
They may not get nearly as much attention these days, but they're our girls and we love them!
